MONUMENTAL MOVEMENT 2023

– a gathering and celebration of the many years of dancing at Philip de Langes Allé, 15th-16th of December 2023.

For more than 20 years the dance studios at Philip de Langes Allé 3, in Copenhagen, have been a place where generations of dancers received their dance education. In February 2024, The Danish National School of Performing Arts (formerly known as The National School for Contemporary Dance) moved out of these beautiful studios; a space which has had great significance on a personal level, as well as for the field as a whole.

Monumental Movement was an event to celebrate and acknowledge all the dancing that has happened at this particular place, and was manifested through a two day-event: DAY 1 – a performance evening, and DAY 2 – a full day consisting of a dance class, a workshop, a conversation with invited guests, an open mic session, a private mic session, a transfer ceremony and a dance floor.

The full event of Monumental Movement was initiated and arranged by former students Andrea Deres and Carolina Bäckman/Danish Dance Stories, together with Rebecka Berchtold/5678 (DAY 2), Casper Albrektsen and Magalí Camps (DAY 1), in collaboration with the Dance Department at DDSKS. You can find documentation from DAY 2 of the event here.
