DANISH DANCE STORIES 2018
An artist-driven initiative focusing on the collegial meeting and the artistic exchange in a historical perspective.
Dear colleague and friend,
It is a pleasure to invite you to 'Danish Dance Stories 2018' – a collegial gathering where we will share personal memories, artistic experiences and common dreams.
The initiative is based on a desire to strengthen the artistic identity across generations and geographical affiliation. We will gather around our personal and subjective stories from artistic influences through the (dance) history – its past, present and future – and on the artist's own premises, share experiences and dreams, in order to strengthen and inspire future dance and choreography.
We are interested in exploring what lies at the root of contemporary dance in Denmark. Who has been part of drawing the history and who is drawing it now? How can we begin a common conversation of the future, crosswise of standpoints?
SYMPOSIUM
the 5-6th of May at HAUT in Copenhagen
RESIDENCY
the 10-15th of June at West Jutland Folk High School at Ringkøbing Fjord
NB! It is not required to participate in both events
SYMPOSIUM offers presentations by Karen Vedel (DK) and Cecilie Ullerup Schmidt (DK), a workshop with joint mapping of personal dance stories, facilitated by 'Samlingen' (SE), as well as a social evening event.
The symposium is free of charge and open to all interested. If traveling far, you have the opportunity to apply for travel support – see here for more info and registration.
RESIDENCY is a short week's stay at West Jutland Folk High School with workshops, collegial exchange of artistic practices, interests and dances, as well as excursions and evening conversations.
The residency is aimed for dance artists and includes workshops, travel, food and lodging. There are limited seats – see here for more info and registration.
DANSKEDANSEHISTORIER.DK is the virtual assembly site where documentation from both events is updated on a regular basis. Visual material, text and podcasts will form the basis for a fragmented mapping of Danish dance history, which hopefully will continue to grow.
We are looking forward to seeing you, moving together and sharing many (dance) stories!
All the best,
Carolina Bäckman, Andrea Deres, Stine Frandsen and Nanna Stigsdatter
Ps. The Danish dance environment is and has always been international, therefore both Danish and English will serve as main languages within Danish Dance Stories.
