DANISH DANCE STORIES 2018– a collegial gathering in two parts for sharing personal memories, artistic experiences and common dreams.
Based on a desire to strengthen the artistic identity across generations and geographical affiliation, the newly established initiative Danish Dance Stories arranged a weekend symposium at HAUT and a week-long residency at West Jutland Folk High School in the spring of 2018.
DD 2018 arose from a curiosity to – on the artists' own premises – explore what lies at the root of contemporary dance in Denmark. Who has been part of drawing history and who is drawing it now? The ambition and hope was to collectively strengthen and inspire future dance and choreography, by sharing personal stories, experiences and dreams, crosswise of artistic affiliations.
The
DD symposium 2018 at HAUT in Copenhagen, took place the 5-6th of May and offered presentations by Karen Vedel (DK) and Cecilie Ullerup Schmidt (DK), a workshop with joint mapping of personal dance stories, facilitated by 'Samlingen' (SE), as well as a social evening event with a curation of film excerpts from collections of the Royal Danish Library.
The
DD residency 2018 was a short week's stay, unfolding the 10-15th of June at West Jutland Folk High School at Ringkøbing fjord with collegial exchange of artistic practices, interests and dances, as well as excursions, evening conversations, and workshops facilitated by Paula Caspão (PT), Sara Hamming (DK) and Ellen Söderhult (SE).
Danish Dance Stories 2018 was funded by The Danish Arts Council, Augustinus Fonden and Bikubenfonden, and co-produced by HAUT, West Jutland Folk High School, Dansehallerne and Udviklingsplatformen for Scenekunst.
